Carbon Offsets for Your Wedding

Lets face it. Weddings seem to be all about bigger, better, fancier, best! There are very easy ways you can make your wedding have less negative impact on the environment. One example is buying Carbon Offsets to balance the carbon emissions your guests will use driving and flying to your wedding.

My wedding, approximately 150 people, will only be about $44.00 to offset!! Wedding Offsets Wedding Offsets

"Your purchase includes a certificate of offset with a handsome frame for display at your wedding (valued at $40, including shipping). The frame is made from salvaged Douglas Fir using environmentally responsible materials and business practices. After your wedding, the frame makes a great keepsake." - Terra Pass
This is a great example to set for your guests! While you are there look at how you can offset your car's emissions also.

A Backyard Reception!

WARNING! This Post Requires Vision!
Maybe a little bit of denial also.
and perhaps a touch of glaucoma.

I am considering having a backyard reception, something my husband suggested and I adamantly refused even to consider. To say our yard is a diamond in the rough is a gross understatement . But it does have good bones, it has lots of potential. If I am going to pay a rental fee to somewhere why not take that money and invest it in my own property?

Our yard has large oak, maple and Bradford pears shading it. It is large enough at a little less than two acres and we have a couple buildings we could utilize as well. We could stay as long as we needed, utilize my kitchen, relax, play and hopefully save a little money!

There are lots of drawbacks. Mainly all the junk in my yard. What better motivation to clean it all up? Famous last words right? haha! I guess Alex and I will have to discuss this in greater detail and see if it is at all feasable. We shall see. I can assure the before and after pictures would be spectacular - the before isn't a whole lot yet!

UPDATE: Well here are some before pictures. It does indeed take vision. It will also take a lot of elbow grease, money, sweat and time.

We have since discussed and we are willing to sink in what we need to go ahead and turn this space we fell in love with three years ago into the space we thought then it could become. Our poor yard has had less than no work done on it since we have moved in.

Our biggest project we are discussing undertaking? A pergola off the back of our house. I hesitate to even put that in print as it may be much more than we imagine. I need to do some more research. I do know I will be spending many hours scowering the internet for ideas, sources and pictures! Wish us luck - also - we will so very gladly take help so thank you for offering! Even your child care alone would be helpful. It is hard to do this stuff with kids underfoot!!!

p.s. to give you an idea of my taste. I LOVE the doorknob above and that will not change. I love my little barn and will be using it as a studio after I clean it up a bit!

The Maid of Honor

My sweet, goofy, intelligent, thoughtful, dreamer of a "little" sister agreed to do me the honor of being my maid of honor! I could not think of anyone better suited to stand next to me that day than her. She has put up with me, listened to me, put up with me, helped me, grown with me, put up with me, cried with me, cried because of me, counseled me, commiserated with me and put up with me for her 21 years. She is so much more than she knows to me and I am so proud to know not only is she my sister but she is a friend and a confidant who I can talk to when only a sister would listen and still love you. Thank you Lindsey! I am so proud of the woman you continue to become. God has wonderful things planned for you and I am excited to see what is in store!

This pictures is proof I was once taller than her.
I think this type of dress might be a good brides maid dress.
You know, something she can use again.
At Halloween.
Also, your totally in flats day of lol.

How Cool Are These Cakes?

I just think these wedding cakes from the Knot are just purdy.
Disregard the pink.

The Polka Dot Cake is what I am leaning to for ours! Fun!

Honeymoon: la Visita de Mexico

Tour of Mexico....

I think it is official. We are scaling back on the ceremony and reception so we can spend more money on the honeymoon. What kind of self proclaimed travel addict who hasn't fed her addiction in way too long would I be if I didn't?

My husband is a native of Guerrero, Mexico. This home to the cliff divers of Acapulco is nicely positioned and holds many amenities a traveling couple could appreciate. Family, a base camp, a free car, and sunshine. Lots of sunshine. Don't skip over free car either.

My husband Alex has not been home to Mexico in twelve years. He left at the young age of 18 and had not seen many of the things outsiders associate with Mexico. I have never been and as a result still have not met two of my sisters. I think we know where we will be going for our honeymoon ladies and gentlemen.

I need to find some hidden gem of a beach for us to bum on.

Even though it is in the heart of cruise ship dump offs and a mecca for camera toting socks pulled way too high tourists - I would like to see Chechen Itza. It is one of the new seven wonders of the world and seeing as I have seen a total of 0 I need to start somewhere. As an archaeological junkie I will be visiting some harder to get to and thus quieter sites as well.

We took a few days on our recent trip and talked /day dreamed about some options. When I suggested Mexico his eyes lit up and he said "Okay!". So I think it is official! We then spent too long that day looking at a map of Mexico fantasizing about all the places we would like to hit. I think it would take months to absorb all the places, sights, sounds, foods and experiences we would like to take in. Not to mention the shopping I would like to do. Best of all? I have a built in translator! We will have to do some research and narrow down the list.

Recyling Glass Bottles for Centerpieces & Decorations

I will be saving up interesting and pretty glass bottles up to use as decorations going along with the Green wedding idea. For those attending and helping, feel free to think of me at your recycling bins! Got a neat shaped olive oil bottle? Interesting vinegar bottle? Save them for me!

I am so glad to see that green weddings are getting more press these days. There are some absolutely elegant ideas out there that are low impact environmentally, high impact visually.
